Final Piece

This is my final piece for unit 3. It is slightly different than my final draft as I had trouble drawing the hand, but I am still very pleased with it.

Firstly I drew the Hand using illustrator. I drew it using the pen tool and coloured it ready for the next step. Here are my work in Progress shots for the hand as well as the helper skelter. They also include some other attempts at the hand I did not use.

This is the development of the hand.

For the background I live traced an image of the pier.

This is the last work in progress shots, They show me blending the helper skelter into the hand, swell as adding the type and finishing touches.

Artist Emulation - Brian methe

I started my emulation by following my brainstorm I made earlier on the arctic monkeys' new album 'AM'. In this brainstorm I listed all of the songs on the album, then picked out different themes and ideas within these songs. By doing this I hoped to create a poster which portrayed a different viewpoint on the song itself and the meaning within. I eventually chose the song 'one for the road' as I liked the gambling aspect and the many ways I could portray this in the poster. I decided to use adobe illustrator to create my poster, as the artist I was emulating has used vector drawings in his work. My idea was to create a playing card but making the lead singer king in the card.
First I vectored the basic outline of the playing card by using one I found online. This would give me the basic outline to my canvas limits and allow me to see how the design would work with different elements.
Next I used the pen tool to develop the vector drawing of Alex Turners face, I used the picture above, but added in a cigarette from another photo of him. I later ditched the cigarette and kept the original mouth I vectored as it didn't work as I had hoped.
Once I had completed the vector image I removed all outlines on the shapes and coloured them with a palette I created of the golds, blues and reds used on the original king of hearts card. Once this had been done, I played with many different connotations I found  from other song on the album, such as dice, diamonds and poker chips.

In the end I tried to place each of these within the card, and even tried creating a pattern like the one used on the original card with these little vectors. But I didn't like how busy it was and preferred a more simplistic look on the card using more white space.

Finaly I vectored a guitar head, I wanted to put this on Alex's back on the card, to add the finishing touch, Im really pleased with how well the vectored guitar came out.

Then I added some text down the side, referring to their new album. I used a font called Lemon/milk because after some light research I discovered that this was a font used in many of the bands album covers.
This is my final artist emulation of Brian Methe

Artist Copy - Brian Methe

For my artist copy I looked at some gig posters on Pinterest and came across an artist called  Brian Methe. This is the poster I chose to copy.

I decided to use Adobe Illustrator to copy his work as I could use vector shapes to easily copy the Tigers face. Here is what I did.

Here is the final layer for the yellow pieces.
